Automation Test Engineer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Automation Test Engineer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Automation Test Engineer position. I currently work as SDET II at Ledgerly Finserv.
Some of what I have done:
- Built a Playwright and TypeScript suite of 1,400 tests that runs in 12 minutes on every pull request.
- Cut flaky tests from 9% to under 1% with stable selectors, retries for network calls and quarantine reports.
- Wrote 500 API tests with REST Assured covering payments, refunds and reconciliation.
The role asks for Automation testing, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Java and Python, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for an Automation Test Engineer role
Name the framework you built, how long the suite takes and how you control flaky tests. Those are the first three questions in an SDET interview.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
