A message like this
Dear applicant, you are directly selected for the post of Customer Support Executive. No interview required. Spot joining with offer letter. Salary Rs 32,000.
Be careful with this one
- It offers a job with no interview, or guarantees selection. Real hiring has a process.
This is what the scam check in the JobCatch app says about the message above, word for word. The message is an example written the way these scams are written; the names and numbers in it are made up.
How this scam works
Being told you are selected feels good, and that is the point. "Direct selection", "spot joining", "no interview" and "100% guaranteed placement" skip the stage where you would meet real people at a real company. What follows is usually a fee, a request for documents, or a "training" you have to pay for.
What a real employer does
Real hiring has a process: an application, at least one interview or test, and an offer from the company itself — usually from a company email address, naming the role, salary and joining date.
When it can be innocent
Some large hiring drives for entry-level roles have quick, informal selection, such as a walk-in with an interview on the spot. That still includes meeting the employer. An offer that arrives with no conversation at all is the warning sign.
What to do
- Do not pay anything, and do not share an OTP or PIN.
- Look for the same job on the company's official website.
- If you have already paid, call 1930 (the national cybercrime helpline) straight away and tell your bank.
Questions
I got an offer letter without an interview. Is it fake?
Very likely. Check it against the company's own careers page and contact the company through its official website — not the details in the letter. Never pay anything to accept an offer.
Do placement agencies guarantee jobs?
No genuine one can, because the employer decides. "Guaranteed placement" in exchange for a fee is a common scam.
