Accountant cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Accountant resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Accountant position. I currently work as Senior Accountant at Marudhar Distributors.
Some of what I have done:
- Close monthly books for a ₹120 crore distributor by the 5th working day, across three bank accounts and 400 vendors.
- File GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and quarterly TDS returns on time for five years, with no late fees.
- Reconciled GSTR-2B with the purchase register every month, recovering ₹9 lakh of input tax credit missed earlier.
The role asks for Accounting, Tally ERP, GST compliance, TDS, Bank reconciliation and Accounts payable, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for an Accountant role
Mention the software you use, the returns you file and the size of business you keep books for. Employers want to know you can take over the desk next month.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
