Electrical Engineer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Electrical Engineer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Electrical Engineer position. I currently work as Electrical Maintenance Engineer at Mahanadi Cement Works.
Some of what I have done:
- Maintain 11 kV distribution, 400 motors and the plant's PLC systems at 99.4% electrical availability.
- Cut the plant's energy use by 9% with VFDs on large fans and pumps and power-factor correction.
- Commissioned a 2 MW rooftop solar installation with the vendor, now supplying 18% of daytime load.
The role asks for Microsoft Excel, Documentation, Vendor management, Team leadership and Process improvement, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for an Electrical Engineer role
Name the equipment and voltage levels you have worked with and one improvement in uptime or energy. Mention any licence your state requires for the work.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
