Civil Engineer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Civil Engineer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Civil Engineer position. I currently work as Site Engineer at Malwa Infra Developers.
Some of what I have done:
- Executed the structure of a ₹85 crore G+14 residential tower, completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
- Prepared quantity estimates, bar bending schedules and contractor bills worth ₹30 crore a year.
- Cut steel wastage from 4% to 1.8% with optimised bar bending schedules.
The role asks for Project management, Microsoft Excel, Vendor management, Documentation and Team leadership, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for a Civil Engineer role
Name the biggest project you worked on, its value and your role. Contractors and builders want to know the scale you can handle.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
