School Teacher resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
A school reads a teacher's resume in a fixed order: eligibility (B.Ed or D.El.Ed, and CTET or a state TET), the subjects and classes you can teach, the boards you know, and how your students did. The teacher resume format guide has the full order; this example shows it filled in.
What recruiters look for
- B.Ed or D.El.Ed, and CTET or state TET with the paper
- Subjects, classes (PRT, TGT, PGT) and boards (CBSE, ICSE, state)
- Results: board pass percentages, improvement, competitions
- Co-curricular work and classroom technology

Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.

Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Teach mathematics to classes 8 to 10 in a CBSE school, five sections of about 40 students.
- Raised the class 10 board average in mathematics from 71% to 82% over three years.
- Run remedial classes twice a week for students below 50%; 85% of them passed the board exam.
- Introduced weekly online quizzes in Google Classroom that every section now uses.
- Coordinate the school's mathematics olympiad entries; 14 students reached the second level last year.
For freshers: projects and internships
- School internship of 16 weeks during B.Ed, teaching mathematics to classes 6 to 8.
- Prepared 40 lesson plans with activity-based methods, reviewed by the supervising teacher.
- Qualified CTET Paper II (Mathematics and Science) in 2025.
Mistakes to avoid
- Burying the eligibility. B.Ed, CTET or TET and the subject degree must be in the first few lines.
- No results. Board percentages and improvement are the most persuasive lines a teacher can write.
- Not saying which classes. PRT, TGT and PGT posts have different eligibility; make yours clear.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain School Teacher posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (TGT Mathematics at Doon Valley Public School), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used Microsoft PowerPoint. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.

Questions
Is CTET needed to teach in a private school?
Not always, but many CBSE schools ask for CTET or a state TET for classes 1 to 8, and central government schools require it. Qualifying it widens your options.
Should a teacher's resume have a photo?
Many Indian schools expect one. The Teaching template has a declaration in the format schools are used to.
