Teacher resume format for schools in India

By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·

A school in India reads a teacher's resume for three things before anything else: the qualifications that make you eligible (a B.Ed or D.El.Ed and, for many schools, CTET or a state TET), the subjects and classes you can teach, and how your students did. Put those first.

Qualifications first

Indian schools often use PRT (primary), TGT (trained graduate teacher, middle and secondary) and PGT (post-graduate teacher, senior secondary) in postings. Use the term the school uses, and check its eligibility rules in the posting.

Experience: subjects, classes and results

For each school, give the board (CBSE, ICSE, state board or IB), the classes and subjects you taught, and what you achieved: board results, pass percentages, students' improvement, olympiad or competition results. "Class 10 Science, CBSE: 96% of students scored above 75% in 2025" is the kind of line a principal remembers.

Beyond the classroom

The demo class

Most schools ask for a demonstration lesson. You do not need to mention it on the resume, but say in your summary which topics and classes you are strongest in — that is often what you will be asked to teach.

Questions

Should a teacher's resume have a photo?

Many Indian schools expect one, and the Teaching template has a declaration in the format they are used to. International schools and IB schools often prefer a CV without personal details; follow the posting.

Is CTET necessary for private school jobs?

Not always, but many CBSE schools ask for CTET or a state TET for primary and middle classes, and central government schools require it. If you have qualified, put it near the top.
