Network Engineer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Network Engineer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Network Engineer position. I currently work as Senior Network Engineer at Megamart Retail.
Some of what I have done:
- Run the network for 180 stores, two data centres and 2,500 users with 99.9% availability.
- Led the SD-WAN rollout across 180 sites, cutting monthly link costs by 28%.
- Migrated data-centre firewalls to Fortinet with no unplanned downtime.
The role asks for Linux, Shell scripting, Python, Documentation and Vendor management, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for a Network Engineer role
Name the vendors and certifications you hold, and the size of network you have run. Networking postings filter on exactly those.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
