DevOps Engineer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample DevOps Engineer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the DevOps Engineer position. I currently work as Senior DevOps Engineer at Invoxa Software.
Some of what I have done:
- Built CI/CD on GitHub Actions and Argo CD; deployments went from weekly to 30 a day.
- Moved 40 services to EKS with Terraform and Helm, with no customer-facing downtime.
- Cut AWS spend by 32% with autoscaling, spot instances and deleting unused resources.
The role asks for AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD and Jenkins, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for a DevOps Engineer role
Mention the pipelines or platform you built and one reliability number you improved. DevOps teams want proof you make releases faster and safer.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
