Chartered Accountant resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
A chartered accountant's resume is read against a clear checklist: when you qualified, how you cleared, where you did your articleship, and what kind of audits, tax or advisory work you have signed off. Recruiters for Big Four firms, banks and industry roles want that in the first few lines.
What recruiters look for
- ICAI membership, the year you qualified and your attempts or ranks
- Articleship: the firm, the duration and the kinds of audits
- Audit, direct and indirect tax, or advisory work, with client size
- Industry exposure: manufacturing, banking, IT, FMCG

Summary examples
Fresher
Newly qualified chartered accountant (ICAI, November 2025, first attempt) with three years of articleship at a mid-size firm covering statutory and tax audits of 25 companies.
Experienced
Chartered accountant with four years in statutory audit at a large firm, leading audits of listed manufacturing companies with revenue up to ₹5,000 crore under Ind AS.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| Auditing | Internal audit, Statutory audit |
| Accounting | Bookkeeping, Book keeping |
| Financial analysis | Financial modelling, Financial modeling |

Also worth listing if you have them: Ind AS, Statutory audit reports, Internal financial controls.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Led statutory audit fieldwork for four listed manufacturing companies with revenue up to ₹5,000 crore under Ind AS.
- Managed audit teams of up to six articled assistants and reviewed their working papers.
- Tested internal financial controls over purchase-to-pay and reported three control weaknesses that the clients fixed.
- Prepared tax audit reports (Form 3CD) for 12 companies and resolved queries from the assessing officers.
- Reviewed GST reconciliations for a client with 18 state registrations and found ₹1.2 crore of mismatched credit.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Articleship of three years at a mid-size firm: statutory and tax audits of 25 companies across manufacturing and trading.
- Bank branch audits at four public-sector bank branches during the annual audit season.
- Cleared CA Final in the first attempt; cleared CA Intermediate with exemption in three papers.
Mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out the articleship details. For a newly qualified CA, the firm and the work there are your experience.
- Writing only "audit". Statutory, internal, tax and bank branch audits are different work; name each.
- No size. Client turnover, team size and number of audits tell a recruiter your level.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Questions
Should a CA mention attempts or ranks on a resume?
Mention an all-India rank or a first-attempt pass; they are a real advantage, especially for Big Four and campus hiring. If you took several attempts, simply give the year you qualified.
How should a CA fresher write articleship on a resume?
As experience: the firm, the dates, and the work — the kinds of audits, the industries, the number of clients and anything you did on your own. It is three years of real work and should read like it.
