Relationship Manager resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Relationship managers in banks are measured on the book they grow and keep: deposits, loans, investments and insurance sold to the customers they handle. A strong resume opens with those numbers, names the products and the licences you hold, and shows you keep customers for years, not months.
What recruiters look for
- The size of the book: customers, deposits or AUM handled
- Targets and achievement, by product
- Licences: NISM and IRDAI certifications for selling investments and insurance
- Customer retention and cross-selling

Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.

Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Handle 350 high-value customers with ₹180 crore in deposits and investments at a busy city branch.
- Achieved 112% of the annual target, including ₹14 crore in mutual fund and insurance sales.
- Kept the book's attrition under 4% a year through quarterly reviews with every customer.
- Cross-sold home and personal loans worth ₹22 crore by referring customers to the lending team.
- Completed KYC re-verification for every account in my book ahead of the bank's deadline.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Summer internship in branch banking: opened 60 savings accounts and helped sell ₹25 lakh of fixed deposits.
- Passed NISM Series V-A (Mutual Fund Distributors).
- MBA project on why customers switch banks, based on a survey of 200 account holders.
Mistakes to avoid
- No numbers. A banking resume without book size and target achievement is not read further.
- Leaving out licences. NISM and IRDAI certifications are often required to sell investment and insurance products.
- Listing products without results. Say what you sold and how much.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Questions
Which certifications does a bank relationship manager need?
To sell mutual funds, NISM Series V-A is required; to sell insurance, the IRDAI qualification for the bank's corporate agency. Banks often help new joiners clear them, but having them already helps.
Can a fresher become a relationship manager?
Yes, many banks hire MBA and graduate freshers as relationship officers or sales officers. Show any sales or customer-facing experience, with numbers.
