Cloud Engineer resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Cloud engineers build and run infrastructure on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, and many postings name one platform. Lead with that platform and its certification, then show migrations, architectures and the cost, security and reliability results of your work.
What recruiters look for
- The cloud platform the employer uses, with certifications
- Migrations from on-premises or between clouds
- Networking, identity and security setup
- Infrastructure as code and cost management

Summary examples
Fresher
Cloud engineer with AWS Solutions Architect – Associate certification, a B.Sc. in IT and an internship setting up monitoring and backups on AWS.
Experienced
Cloud engineer with four years on AWS and Azure for a services firm. Migrated 140 servers for three clients to the cloud and set up landing zones with Terraform.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| AWS | Amazon Web Services |
| Microsoft Azure | Azure |
| Google Cloud Platform | GCP, Google Cloud |
| Terraform | Infrastructure as Code, IaC |
| Linux | Unix, Ubuntu, RHEL |
| Docker | Containerisation, Containerization |
| Kubernetes | K8s, EKS, AKS |
| Serverless | AWS Lambda, Lambda, Cloud Functions |
| Python | Python 3 |
| Shell scripting | Bash, Shell, Bash scripting |
| CI/CD | Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, CICD |
| Git | Version control, GitHub, Bitbucket |
Also worth listing if you have them: VPC and cloud networking, IAM.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Migrated 140 on-premises servers for three clients to AWS, with a tested rollback for each wave.
- Built multi-account landing zones with Terraform, including networking, IAM and logging.
- Cut a client's monthly cloud bill by ₹6 lakh with reserved instances and storage lifecycle rules.
- Moved scheduled jobs to AWS Lambda, retiring 18 always-on servers.
- Hardened IAM after an audit, removing 300 unused access keys and enforcing MFA.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Internship: set up CloudWatch monitoring and automated backups for a client's AWS account.
- Built a static website on S3 and CloudFront with HTTPS and infrastructure in Terraform.
- Passed AWS Solutions Architect – Associate.
Mistakes to avoid
- Listing all three clouds equally when you know one well. Lead with your strongest.
- Certifications with no hands-on work. Pair each with something you built.
- Ignoring security and cost. Both are central to cloud work and to interviews.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Cloud Engineer posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Cloud Engineer at Nexora Digital Services), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used AWS. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Microsoft Azure. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Google Cloud Platform. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.

Questions
AWS, Azure or Google Cloud — which is best for jobs in India?
AWS has the most postings, Azure is strong in enterprises and services firms that run Microsoft stacks, and Google Cloud is growing. Check the postings for the companies you want.
Is a cloud certification enough to get a job?
Not on its own. It gets you past filters; projects you can explain get you the offer. Build something real on the platform and put it on your resume.
