DevOps Engineer resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
DevOps and SRE teams are judged by how fast and how safely code reaches production, and how quickly things recover when they break. A strong resume shows the pipelines and platforms you built, the reliability numbers you moved, and the cloud and tooling behind them.
What recruiters look for
- CI/CD pipelines and deployment frequency
- Kubernetes, containers and infrastructure as code
- Reliability: uptime, incident response, mean time to recovery
- Cost control and security in the cloud

DevOps engineer with a B.Tech, AWS Cloud Practitioner and CKA certifications, and an internship automating deployments with GitHub Actions and Terraform.
Experienced
DevOps engineer with five years running AWS and Kubernetes for a SaaS company. Took deployments from weekly to 30 a day and cut cloud spend by 32%.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.

Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Built CI/CD on GitHub Actions and Argo CD; deployments went from weekly to 30 a day.
- Moved 40 services to EKS with Terraform and Helm, with no customer-facing downtime.
- Cut AWS spend by 32% with autoscaling, spot instances and deleting unused resources.
- Set up Prometheus, Grafana and on-call alerting; mean time to recovery fell from 70 to 15 minutes.
- Wrote the incident process and ran blameless reviews for 25 incidents.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Internship: automated deployments for three services with GitHub Actions and Terraform.
- Built a home-lab Kubernetes cluster and documented it; passed the CKA exam.
- Wrote Bash and Python scripts that set up a developer machine in ten minutes.
Mistakes to avoid
- A wall of tool logos. Say what you built with them and what improved.
- No reliability numbers. Uptime, recovery time and deployment frequency are the job's scorecard.
- Leaving out cost. Cloud bills are a standard interview topic now.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain DevOps Engineer posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Senior DevOps Engineer at Invoxa Software), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for

Questions
Which certifications help a DevOps resume?
AWS (Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer), CKA for Kubernetes and the HashiCorp Terraform Associate are the ones Indian postings name most. They help most early in a career.
Can a fresher get a DevOps job?
Yes, though many start in support, system administration or development first. A home lab, a certification and scripts on GitHub show the hands-on skill employers want.
Next: the DevOps Engineer cover letter the app drafts from this resume, and how to show AWS, Kubernetes, Docker on a resume.
