Driver resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
A driver is hired on trust and record. Put your licence class and validity, years of driving, the vehicles you can drive, the routes or cities you know, and your safety record at the top. Employers — companies, families, transport firms — check these first.
What recruiters look for
- Licence class (LMV, HMV, transport badge) and validity
- Years of driving and vehicle types
- Routes and cities known, including highways
- Safety record and vehicle care

Company driver with eight years of accident-free driving in Mumbai and on the Mumbai–Pune highway. Valid LMV licence with transport endorsement; maintain the vehicle and its records.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| Hindi | — |
| English | — |
| Customer service | Customer support, Customer handling |
Also worth listing if you have them: Light and heavy vehicle licence, Highway and city driving, Basic vehicle maintenance, GPS navigation.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Drive senior managers of a manufacturing company across Mumbai and on the Mumbai–Pune highway.
- Eight years of driving with no accident or traffic fine.
- Keep the car's service, insurance and pollution certificates up to date, with a logbook for every trip.
- Plan routes around traffic and tolls; on-time pickups for every scheduled meeting last year.
- Handle airport pickups and outstation trips of up to 600 km.
Mistakes to avoid
- Not giving the licence class and validity. Employers check these first, and many verify them.
- Leaving out your safety record. Years without an accident is your strongest line.
- Forgetting the routes and cities you know. It tells the employer you can start immediately.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Driver posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Company Driver at Konkan Industries), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used Customer service. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used English. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Hindi. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.

Questions
Should a driver have a resume?
Yes, for companies, transport firms and agencies that hire through forms. A one-page resume with licence details, experience and references helps you stand out from those without one.
What licence do I need to drive a company car?
An LMV licence; for driving a commercial vehicle you also need the transport endorsement. Check your state's transport department for the exact category your job needs.
