Security Guard resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Security agencies and companies hire guards on training, record and reliability. Your resume should state your security training, the sites you have guarded (offices, malls, factories, housing societies), your physical fitness and any ex-servicemen background, and your record of incidents handled and attendance.
What recruiters look for
- Security training as required under the PSARA rules, and certificates
- Sites: corporate offices, malls, factories, hospitals, housing societies
- Ex-servicemen background, if any
- Record: attendance, incidents handled, fire and first-aid training

Summary examples
Experienced
Security guard with six years at corporate offices and a shopping mall. Trained under PSARA guidelines, with fire safety and first aid; 99% attendance and no lapses on my posts.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| First aid | BLS, CPR |
| Customer service | Customer support, Customer handling |
| Documentation | Technical writing, Record keeping |
| Hindi | — |
| English | — |
Also worth listing if you have them: Access control and visitor register, Fire safety, CCTV monitoring, Patrolling.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Guard the main entrance of a 1,200-employee corporate office, checking IDs and visitors.
- Keep the visitor register and material gate pass records complete for every audit.
- Monitor CCTV during night shifts and respond to alarms across a 12-acre campus.
- Assisted in two fire evacuation drills and one real evacuation, with no injuries.
- Kept 99% attendance over three years, including night shifts.
Mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out training. Agencies must employ trained guards; say what training you completed and when.
- Not naming sites. Office, mall, factory and hospital security are different postings.
- Paying an agent for a guard job. Genuine agencies do not charge a joining fee; see the registration fee warning sign.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.

Questions
What training does a security guard need in India?
Private security agencies must have guards trained as set out in the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 and the state's rules. The agency arranges it; keep your training certificate.
Do ex-servicemen get preference for security jobs?
Many agencies and companies prefer ex-servicemen for supervisor and armed roles. If you served, put it at the top with your rank and years.
