Product Analyst resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Product analysts help product teams decide what to build by measuring what users do. Employers read the resume for SQL and analytics tools, experiment design, and examples of analysis that changed a product decision.
What recruiters look for
- SQL and a product analytics tool (Mixpanel, Amplitude, GA4)
- Funnels, cohorts, retention and experiment analysis
- Metric definitions and dashboards product teams rely on
- Analysis that changed a roadmap or a feature

Summary examples
Fresher
Product analyst with an engineering degree, an internship analysing funnels for an edtech app, and strong SQL and statistics.
Experienced
Product analyst with three years at a food-delivery company. Defined the retention metrics the product org reports on and found the onboarding change that lifted week-4 retention by 6 points.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |

Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Defined the activation and retention metrics that 11 product teams report on every week.
- Found that users who saved an address in the first session retained twice as well; the onboarding change lifted week-4 retention 6 points.
- Designed and analysed 25 experiments, including sample-size planning and guardrail metrics.
- Built funnel dashboards in Mixpanel and SQL used daily by product managers.
- Cut a weekly manual metrics pack from four hours to twenty minutes with scheduled SQL.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Internship: analysed the sign-up funnel of an edtech app and found a 40% drop at phone verification.
- Built a retention-cohort analysis on a public e-commerce dataset in SQL and Python.
- Completed a course in experiment design and statistics for product decisions.
Mistakes to avoid
- Writing a data analyst's resume. Product analyst bullets should end in product decisions.
- Not naming the analytics tools. Postings often filter for Mixpanel, Amplitude or GA4.
- Experiments with no result. Say what you tested, what you found and what was shipped.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Product Analyst posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Product Analyst at Tiffinly Foods), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used Python. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used SQL. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.

Questions
What is the difference between a product analyst and a data analyst?
A product analyst works inside a product team on user behaviour and experiments; a data analyst usually serves a wider business. The tools overlap; the questions differ.
Can a product analyst become a product manager?
Often, yes. It is one of the most common routes into product management, because you already work with product teams on decisions.
