Staff Nurse cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Staff Nurse resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Staff Nurse position. I currently work as Staff Nurse, Medical ICU at Lakeshore Multispeciality Hospital.
Some of what I have done:
- Care for three to four ventilated patients per shift in a 24-bed medical ICU of a 600-bed hospital.
- Trained 20 new nurses on ventilator care, documentation and infection-control bundles.
- Helped bring central-line infections in the ICU to zero for nine months by following the insertion and care bundle.
The role asks for Patient care, First aid, Clinical documentation, Phlebotomy, English and Hindi, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for a Staff Nurse role
Mention your registration, the departments you can join and the patient load you are used to. The letter is often read by the nursing superintendent, who wants to place you on a ward.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
