Data Scientist cover letter example

I am writing to apply for the Data Scientist position. I currently work as Data Scientist at Lendmark Finance.
Some of what I have done:
- Built a gradient-boosted fraud model that blocks ₹3 crore of fraud a month at a 0.4% false-positive rate.
- Replaced rule-based credit limits with a model that cut 90-day defaults by 11% at the same approval rate.
- Designed the A/B framework used to test every pricing change, with power calculations built in.
The role asks for Python, SQL, Machine learning, Statistics, Pandas and NumPy, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for a Data Scientist role
Describe one model by the business result it produced, against a baseline. If it ran in production, say so — that is what most data science managers look for.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
