Machine Learning Engineer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Machine Learning Engineer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Machine Learning Engineer position. I currently work as Machine Learning Engineer at Streamcast Media.
Some of what I have done:
- Built and run the ranking service that serves 12 models at under 40 ms p99 to 50 lakh daily users.
- Moved training to a scheduled pipeline with MLflow tracking; retraining went from monthly and manual to weekly and automatic.
- Raised click-through on the home feed by 14% with a two-tower retrieval model.
The role asks for Python, Machine learning, Deep learning, PyTorch, TensorFlow and Scikit-learn, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for a Machine Learning Engineer role
Lead with a model you put into production: its latency, scale and how you monitored it. That is the line between ML engineering and data science.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
