Sales Executive resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Sales is judged by numbers, and the resume should open with them: targets, achievement against target, revenue, accounts and rankings. Employers also want the kind of selling — field, inside sales, B2B, retail — and the products and customers you know.
What recruiters look for
- Target and achievement, as a percentage and in rupees
- Type of sales: field, inside, B2B, channel, retail
- Products, industries and territories
- CRM use, pipeline discipline and awards or rankings

Fresher
BBA graduate with a sales internship at an edtech company, where I made 60 calls a day and closed ₹4.2 lakh in course sales in two months.
Experienced
Sales executive with four years in B2B software sales to SMEs. Achieved 118% of target last year (₹1.6 crore), ranked second of 22 in the region.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |

| Client communication | Client handling, Client servicing |
| Salesforce CRM | Salesforce, CRM |
| Microsoft Excel | Excel, MS Excel, Advanced Excel |
| Customer service | Customer support, Customer handling |
| Stakeholder management | — |
| English | — |
| Hindi | — |
Also worth listing if you have them: Lead generation, Negotiation, Cold calling, Territory management.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Achieved 118% of annual target (₹1.6 crore), ranked second of 22 executives in the west region.
- Built a pipeline of 140 SME accounts in Pune and Nashik, mostly through referrals and cold calls.
- Shortened the average sales cycle from 45 to 30 days with a structured demo and trial plan.
- Kept every opportunity updated in Salesforce; my forecasts were within 5% for four quarters.
- Trained three new executives on the product demo and objection handling.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Sales internship at an edtech company: 60 calls a day and ₹4.2 lakh in course sales in two months.
- Sold sponsorships worth ₹1.5 lakh for my college festival.
- Ran a small online clothing reselling business through Instagram during college.
Mistakes to avoid
- No target numbers. A sales resume without achievement against target is not read further.
- Hiding what you sold and to whom. Product and customer type decide whether you fit.
- Leaving out rankings and awards. They are the quickest proof of performance.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Questions
What should a sales executive resume start with?
Your best numbers: target achievement, revenue and ranking, in the summary. Recruiters decide in seconds whether to read on.
Can a fresher with no sales experience get a sales job?
Yes. Show anything you sold — festival sponsorships, a small business, an internship — with numbers, and that you are comfortable on the phone and in person.
