Embedded Software Engineer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Embedded Software Engineer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Embedded Software Engineer position. I currently work as Embedded Software Engineer at Autotronix Systems.
Some of what I have done:
- Wrote and maintain firmware for two automotive body control ECUs on ARM Cortex-M4 with FreeRTOS.
- Brought 60,000 lines of embedded C to MISRA C:2012 compliance ahead of a customer audit.
- Cut the boot time of a door-control module from 180 ms to 65 ms by reordering peripheral initialisation.
The role asks for C++, Python, Linux, Shell scripting and Git, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for an Embedded Software Engineer role
Name the microcontrollers and protocols you have worked with, and one bug you found at board level. Embedded managers hire for hands-on debugging.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
