Java Developer cover letter example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
This letter was drafted by JobCatch's cover-letter writer from the sample Java Developer resume, for a plain posting for the role. It uses only what is already on the resume — the current job, its strongest bullets and the skills the posting asks for that the resume has. It invents nothing, which is why it is short.
The letter, as text
I am writing to apply for the Java Developer position. I currently work as Senior Java Developer at Finstack Banking Solutions.
Some of what I have done:
- Designed the payment-status service in Spring Boot and Kafka, processing 25 lakh events a day.
- Upgraded seven services from Java 8 to Java 17, cutting memory use by 20% and unblocking a security audit.
- Replaced N+1 Hibernate queries in the statements API, cutting response time from 3.2 s to 400 ms.
The role asks for Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, SQL and MySQL, which I have worked with.
I would welcome the chance to talk about how I could contribute. My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
What to add for a Java Developer role
Name the domain you know — banking, telecom, retail — alongside Java and Spring Boot. Services firms and product companies staff by domain as much as by language.
Before you send it
- Name the company and, if you can find it, the hiring manager.
- Add one sentence on why this company: something specific you read about it.
- Keep it under one page, and send it as a PDF with the same name and contact line as your resume.
What to leave out
- Adjectives about yourself — "passionate", "results-driven", "hardworking". Facts do that job better.
- Your whole resume again. Pick the two or three things that matter most for this job.
- Salary, notice period and personal details, unless the posting asks for them in the letter.
