.NET Developer resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
.NET jobs in India are concentrated in enterprises, insurers, healthcare IT and services firms building on Microsoft stacks. Those teams look for modern .NET (Core and later), C#, SQL Server and Azure, and they value people who have moved old .NET Framework code forward.
What recruiters look for
- C# and modern .NET (6, 7, 8), not only .NET Framework
- ASP.NET Core Web API and Entity Framework
- SQL Server and Azure services
- Migration of legacy applications, which most .NET teams are doing

Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| .NET | ASP.NET, Dot Net, DotNet, .NET Core |
| C# | C sharp, CSharp |
| Microsoft SQL Server | SQL Server, MSSQL, T-SQL |
| Microsoft Azure | Azure |
| REST APIs | REST, RESTful APIs, REST API |
| Microservices | Microservice architecture |
| Angular | AngularJS, Angular 2+ |
| JavaScript | JS, ES6, ECMAScript |
| Unit testing | Unit tests |
| Git | Version control, GitHub, Bitbucket |
| CI/CD | Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, CICD |
| Agile methodology | Agile, Scrum, Kanban |
Also worth listing if you have them: Entity Framework Core, LINQ.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Migrated a claims-processing system from .NET Framework 4.6 to .NET 8 on Azure App Service, cutting hosting cost by 35%.
- Built 30 ASP.NET Core Web API endpoints with Entity Framework Core and SQL Server for a hospital network.
- Rewrote three slow stored procedures, cutting the nightly batch from 5 hours to 70 minutes.
- Set up Azure DevOps pipelines with automated tests for four services.
- Added xUnit tests for billing rules, catching rounding errors before they reached invoices.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Internship: built Web API endpoints in ASP.NET Core for a hospital appointment system.
- Final-year project: an inventory system in C#, ASP.NET Core MVC and SQL Server.
- Completed Microsoft Learn's Azure fundamentals path and passed AZ-900.
Mistakes to avoid
- Writing only ".NET" without the version. ".NET Framework 4.5" and ".NET 8" are different jobs to a hiring manager.
- Listing VB.NET and Web Forms first. If you have modern experience, lead with it.
- Not mentioning SQL Server depth. Stored procedures, query tuning and schema work are core to most .NET roles.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain .NET Developer posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Senior .NET Developer at Medisys Health IT), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used .NET. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used REST APIs. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Microservices. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Microsoft SQL Server. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Microsoft Azure. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
About what the resume claims
- You wrote: "Migrated a claims-processing system from .NET Framework 4.6 to .NET 8 on Azure App Service, cutting hosting cost by 35%." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Built 30 ASP.NET Core Web API endpoints with Entity Framework Core and SQL Server for a hospital network." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Rewrote three slow stored procedures, cutting the nightly batch from 5 hours to 70 minutes." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
Questions to ask them
- What would a good first three months in this role look like?
- Who would I work with most closely?
- What are the next steps, and when should I expect to hear back?
Templates that suit this role
All of these are single-column and read cleanly by an applicant tracking system. Classic is free, with no watermark.
Questions
Should I write .NET, Dot Net or ASP.NET?
Use ".NET" with the version and "ASP.NET Core" for web work; those are the forms postings use. Recruiters do search "Dot Net" too, so it does no harm in your summary once.
Is Azure certification useful for a .NET developer?
Yes. AZ-204 (Azure Developer Associate) is the one most relevant to .NET work, and many Microsoft-stack employers list it as preferred.
