Solutions Architect resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Solutions architects are hired to turn business problems into systems that work and can be afforded. Their resumes should show designs that shipped, the trade-offs made, the clients or business units involved, and the cost or risk those designs saved.
What recruiters look for
- Systems designed end to end, with scale and constraints
- Cloud platforms and certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Pre-sales and client work: proposals, estimates, workshops
- Results in cost, performance, security or time to market

Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| AWS | Amazon Web Services |
| Microsoft Azure | Azure |
| Google Cloud Platform | GCP, Google Cloud |
| Microservices | Microservice architecture |
| Kubernetes | K8s, EKS, AKS |
| Terraform | Infrastructure as Code, IaC |
| Database design | Schema design, Data modelling, Data modeling |
| REST APIs | REST, RESTful APIs, REST API |
| Message queues (Kafka) | Kafka, Apache Kafka |
| Stakeholder management | — |
| Requirement gathering | Requirements analysis, BRD |
| Serverless | AWS Lambda, Lambda, Cloud Functions |
Also worth listing if you have them: Architecture reviews, Cost optimisation.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Designed a multi-region order platform on AWS for a retail client handling 1.5 crore orders a month.
- Cut a bank client's infrastructure bill by 40% by moving batch workloads to serverless and spot capacity.
- Led 22 pre-sales workshops and wrote the technical proposals for deals worth ₹85 crore.
- Set the reference architecture and review process for eight delivery teams.
- Designed the data residency approach that let a client meet RBI data-storage rules.
Mistakes to avoid
- Listing every cloud service you know. Show the systems you designed and why you chose what you chose.
- No business result. Architecture is judged on cost, risk and speed; put the numbers in.
- Hiding pre-sales work. For many architect roles, writing proposals and running workshops is half the job.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Solutions Architect posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Solutions Architect at Cloudbridge Consulting), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for

Questions
Which certification matters most for a solutions architect?
The professional-level certificate for the cloud the employer uses: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Google Professional Cloud Architect.
How technical should an architect's resume be?
Technical enough to show you have designed real systems, but every bullet should also say what the design achieved. The reader may be a CTO or a client's procurement team.
Next: the Solutions Architect cover letter the app drafts from this resume, and how to show AWS, Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes on a resume.
