Full Stack Developer resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
"Full stack" means different things at different companies — MERN at a startup, Java and Angular at a bank. Your resume should name your actual stack in the first lines and then prove you can take a feature from database to screen on your own.
What recruiters look for
- Your stack named plainly: for example React, Node.js and MongoDB, or Angular, Spring Boot and MySQL
- Features you built end to end, with what they achieved
- Deployment: where your code runs and how it gets there
- Breadth without shallowness: one strong side is fine if the other is solid

Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.

Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Built the billing module end to end — PostgreSQL schema, Node.js API and React screens — now invoicing ₹4 crore a month.
- Moved the app from a single VM to containers on AWS ECS with GitHub Actions deploys; releases went from weekly to daily.
- Cut monthly AWS spend by 30% by right-sizing instances and moving reports to a read replica.
- Added role-based access across API and UI for 1,500 enterprise users.
- Built a CSV import that handles 50,000 rows with validation, replacing a manual onboarding step.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Built a turf-booking app in the MERN stack with Razorpay test payments; 150 bookings made by friends and classmates.
- Deployed all projects with Docker on a cloud VM, with HTTPS and a CI pipeline on GitHub Actions.
- Completed a three-month internship building admin dashboards in React for a logistics startup.
Mistakes to avoid
- Calling yourself full stack with three tutorial projects. Show one real feature, end to end, that someone used.
- Listing MERN and MEAN and Java and .NET. Pick the stack you are strongest in and lead with it.
- Forgetting deployment. A full stack developer who has never put an app online is half the story.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Full Stack Developer posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Full Stack Developer at Invoxa Software), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used JavaScript. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used TypeScript. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used React. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Node.js. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Express.js. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used MongoDB. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
About what the resume claims
- You wrote: "Built the billing module end to end — PostgreSQL schema, Node.js API and React screens — now invoicing ₹4 crore a month." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Moved the app from a single VM to containers on AWS ECS with GitHub Actions deploys; releases went from weekly to daily." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Cut monthly AWS spend by 30% by right-sizing instances and moving reports to a read replica." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
Questions to ask them
- What would a good first three months in this role look like?
- Who would I work with most closely?
- What are the next steps, and when should I expect to hear back?
Templates that suit this role
All of these are single-column and read cleanly by an applicant tracking system. Classic is free, with no watermark.
Questions
Should I write MERN or list each technology?
Both. Recruiters search for "MERN" and for each part, so write "MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js)" once, and use the individual names in your bullets.
Do full stack roles need a portfolio?
It helps more than for most roles, because you can show a working product. Link one or two live projects with their code; a dozen half-finished ones is worse.
