Frontend Developer resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Frontend hiring managers look for two things a resume can show: that you can build interfaces in the framework they use, and that you care about what users feel — speed, accessibility, things not breaking. A link to something live does more than any adjective.
What recruiters look for
- The framework in the posting (React, Angular or Vue) and its version era
- Performance work with numbers: load time, bundle size, Core Web Vitals
- Accessibility and responsive design, which many candidates skip
- A live site or portfolio a recruiter can open on their phone

Summary examples
Fresher
Frontend developer who has shipped three responsive React projects, one with 1,200 monthly users. Comfortable with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and testing with Jest.
Experienced
Frontend developer with three years in React and TypeScript for an e-commerce platform. Cut page load time by 45% and led the design-system rollout across four product teams.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| JavaScript | JS, ES6, ECMAScript |

Also worth listing if you have them: Core Web Vitals.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Rebuilt the product listing page in Next.js with server rendering; Largest Contentful Paint fell from 4.1 s to 1.9 s on mobile.
- Cut the main JavaScript bundle by 38% by code-splitting routes and removing two unused libraries.
- Built 40 reusable components for the company design system, now used by four product teams.
- Fixed 120 accessibility issues found in a WCAG 2.1 audit; the checkout flow now works fully with a screen reader.
- Wrote Jest and Playwright tests for checkout, which caught three release-blocking bugs in the first quarter.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Built a recipe-search site in React and TypeScript with 1,200 monthly users; scores 96 on Lighthouse performance.
- Cloned a food-delivery app's ordering flow with Redux and a mock API to practise state management.
- Interned for two months at a SaaS startup and fixed 30 UI bugs reported by customers.
Mistakes to avoid
- Listing HTML, CSS and JavaScript as three "skills" at the top. Every frontend candidate has them; lead with the framework and what you built.
- A portfolio link that is broken, slow or not mobile-friendly. It is your work sample, and recruiters open it on a phone.
- No numbers on performance work. "Improved performance" means nothing; "LCP from 4.1 s to 1.9 s" is a story an interviewer will ask about.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Frontend Developer posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Frontend Developer at Cartwise Retail Tech), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used JavaScript. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used TypeScript. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used HTML5. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used CSS3. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used React. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Next.js. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
About what the resume claims
- You wrote: "Rebuilt the product listing page in Next.js with server rendering; Largest Contentful Paint fell from 4.1 s to 1.9 s on mobile." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Cut the main JavaScript bundle by 38% by code-splitting routes and removing two unused libraries." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Built 40 reusable components for the company design system, now used by four product teams." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
Questions to ask them
- What would a good first three months in this role look like?
- Who would I work with most closely?
- What are the next steps, and when should I expect to hear back?
Templates that suit this role
All of these are single-column and read cleanly by an applicant tracking system. Classic is free, with no watermark.
Questions
Should a frontend developer use a creative resume design?
No. A clean, single-column resume parses reliably, and your design taste shows in the portfolio you link to. Save the visual flair for the projects themselves.
What if I only know React and the job asks for Angular?
Apply if the rest fits, and say what is true: the concepts transfer, and you can show how quickly you learned React. Never list Angular as a skill if you cannot discuss it in an interview.
