Python Developer resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
"Python developer" covers web backends, automation and data pipelines, and recruiters filter by which one. Make yours clear in the first line — Django or FastAPI web work, scripting and automation, or data — and back it with what your code did and for whom.
What recruiters look for
- The framework: Django, FastAPI or Flask
- APIs, databases and background jobs (Celery, queues)
- Testing and code quality: pytest, type hints, CI
- Automation or data work if the posting leans that way

Summary examples
Fresher
Python developer with two Django projects and an internship automating reports with Pandas. Comfortable with REST APIs, PostgreSQL and Linux.
Experienced
Python developer with four years building Django and FastAPI services for a healthtech company. Built the appointment API used by 1,800 clinics and automated claims processing.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| Python | Python 3 |
| Django | — |

| Flask | — |
| REST APIs | REST, RESTful APIs, REST API |
| PostgreSQL | Postgres, PostgresSQL |

| AWS | Amazon Web Services |
| Linux | Unix, Ubuntu, RHEL |
| Git | Version control, GitHub, Bitbucket |
| Unit testing | Unit tests |

Also worth listing if you have them: Celery, pytest.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Built the appointment-booking API in Django REST Framework used by 1,800 clinics.
- Wrote a FastAPI service for insurance claim checks that replaced a manual review of 3,000 claims a week.
- Moved report generation to Celery workers, cutting API timeouts during month-end by 95%.
- Introduced type hints, mypy and pytest across the codebase; production bugs per release fell by half.
- Automated a daily data reconciliation with Pandas that saved the operations team 10 hours a week.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Built a Django job-board site with search, login and an admin panel, deployed on a Linux VM with Nginx.
- Internship: automated weekly sales reports with Pandas and openpyxl, saving four hours a week.
- Wrote a Python script that scrapes a public timetable and emails exam reminders to 200 students.
Mistakes to avoid
- Not saying which kind of Python. A Django backend role and a data role read the same resume very differently.
- Listing every library you have imported. Frameworks and tools belong in skills; libraries belong in bullets.
- No tests. Python's flexibility makes testing a common interview topic, so show that you write them.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Python Developer posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Python Developer at Carepoint Health Systems), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used Python. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Django. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Flask. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used FastAPI. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used REST APIs. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used PostgreSQL. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
About what the resume claims
- You wrote: "Built the appointment-booking API in Django REST Framework used by 1,800 clinics." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Wrote a FastAPI service for insurance claim checks that replaced a manual review of 3,000 claims a week." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Moved report generation to Celery workers, cutting API timeouts during month-end by 95%." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
Questions to ask them
- What would a good first three months in this role look like?
- Who would I work with most closely?
- What are the next steps, and when should I expect to hear back?
Templates that suit this role
All of these are single-column and read cleanly by an applicant tracking system. Classic is free, with no watermark.
Questions
Django or FastAPI — which should I learn for jobs?
Django still has more postings in India, especially for full web applications; FastAPI is growing fast for APIs and machine-learning services. Know one well and the other enough to read it.
Can I apply for data roles as a Python developer?
Yes, if you have done data work: Pandas, SQL and some statistics. Make a separate version of your resume that leads with that, rather than one resume trying to be both.
Next: the Python Developer cover letter the app drafts from this resume, and how to show Python, REST APIs, PostgreSQL on a resume.
