Golang Developer resume example
By Bhagirath Sheela, founder of JobCatch ·
Go is used for high-throughput backends, infrastructure and platform tooling, and Go teams tend to be small and senior. They read a resume for concurrency, performance and operational maturity — services that ran fast and stayed up — more than for a long list of tools.
What recruiters look for
- Go in production: services, CLIs or infrastructure
- Concurrency done well: goroutines, channels, context
- gRPC, Kafka and distributed-system patterns
- Observability and performance profiling

Summary examples
Fresher
Backend developer who writes Go: built a rate-limited API gateway and a concurrent web crawler, both with tests and benchmarks.
Experienced
Go developer with four years building payment and ledger services. Rewrote a Python service in Go to handle 9x the traffic on a third of the servers.
Skills, spelled the way postings spell them
An applicant tracking system matches the words in the job posting, and it does not reliably treat two spellings as one skill. The left column is the form most postings use; the right, other spellings people type. Use the posting's own spelling for each application, and list only what you can discuss in an interview.
| Skill | Also written as |
|---|---|
| Go | Golang |
| gRPC | — |
| REST APIs | REST, RESTful APIs, REST API |
| Microservices | Microservice architecture |
| PostgreSQL | Postgres, PostgresSQL |
| Redis | — |
| Message queues (Kafka) | Kafka, Apache Kafka |
| Docker | Containerisation, Containerization |
| Kubernetes | K8s, EKS, AKS |
| AWS | Amazon Web Services |
| Linux | Unix, Ubuntu, RHEL |
| Monitoring (Grafana) | Grafana, Prometheus |
| Git | Version control, GitHub, Bitbucket |
Also worth listing if you have them: pprof profiling.
Bullet examples
Each bullet says what you did and what changed because of it. Change the numbers to your own; a recruiter will ask about every one.
- Rewrote the payout-scheduling service from Python to Go; it now handles 9x the traffic on a third of the servers.
- Built gRPC services for the ledger with idempotent writes, processing ₹600 crore a month.
- Found and fixed a goroutine leak with pprof that had caused weekly memory restarts.
- Added Prometheus metrics and Grafana dashboards for every service the team owns.
- Wrote an internal CLI in Go that automates database failover drills.
For freshers: projects and internships
- Built an API gateway in Go with token-bucket rate limiting and JWT checks, with benchmarks.
- Wrote a concurrent web crawler using goroutines and a worker pool, crawling 10,000 pages in 40 seconds.
- Contributed a bug fix to a popular open-source Go CLI tool.
Mistakes to avoid
- Writing "Golang" everywhere. The language is called Go; use "Go (Golang)" once so both searches match.
- No concurrency in your bullets. It is the reason teams pick Go, and they will ask.
- Leaving out operations: metrics, profiling, incidents. Go roles are usually close to production.
What an ATS reads from this sample
An applicant tracking system turns the PDF into plain text before anyone reads it. This is that text for the sample above, extracted by the same code as "What the ATS reads" in the app. Everything is in reading order, under the right heading, with the name and email intact — which is what a single-column template is for.

Interview questions to prepare
The app's interview prep for this sample and a plain Golang Developer posting. It works from the resume and the posting only, and tells you how to prepare, never what to say.
Questions every interview has
- Tell me about yourself. Two minutes: what you do now (Software Engineer (Go) at Payrail Technologies), one result you are proud of, and why this role is next.
- Why do you want this job? Read their website and one recent piece of news before the call. Name something specific.
- Why are you leaving your current job? Say what you are moving towards. Do not criticise your employer.
- What is your notice period, and what salary are you expecting? Decide your number before the interview, so you are not deciding it on the call.
About the skills the job asks for
- Tell me about a time you used Go. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used REST APIs. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used gRPC. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Microservices. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used PostgreSQL. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
- Tell me about a time you used Redis. Pick one real example: what the problem was, what you did, and what changed.
About what the resume claims
- You wrote: "Rewrote the payout-scheduling service from Python to Go; it now handles 9x the traffic on a third of the servers." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Built gRPC services for the ledger with idempotent writes, processing ₹600 crore a month." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
- You wrote: "Found and fixed a goroutine leak with pprof that had caused weekly memory restarts." Expect three follow-ups: how exactly, what was your own part, and how you know it worked.
Questions to ask them
- What would a good first three months in this role look like?
- Who would I work with most closely?
- What are the next steps, and when should I expect to hear back?
Templates that suit this role
All of these are single-column and read cleanly by an applicant tracking system. Classic is free, with no watermark.
Questions
Should I write Go or Golang?
Write "Go (Golang)" once, because recruiters search for both, then "Go" in your bullets. Most postings say "Golang" in the title and "Go" in the text.
Can a fresher get a Go job?
It is harder than Java or Python because Go teams hire fewer juniors, but it happens — usually through internships or open-source work. Show a non-trivial Go project with tests and benchmarks.
